5 Winter Activities in North Miami

Dec 15, 2021

There's something special about winter in the Sunshine State. For a few fleeting months, daytime temperatures hover around 70 degrees, making it the perfect time to go outside and take advantage of the fun things to do in South Florida.

Whether you're craving cutting-edge culture or outdoor adventure, North Miami is packed with winter activities to help you make the most of this short season.

1. Try Outdoor Winter Activities in Oleta River State Park

Enjoy the warm winter weather at the 1,043-acre Oleta River State Park. Dust off your mountain bike for an adventure on the 15-mile trail network, or relax with an afternoon of shore fishing. The calm, protected waterways are popular with local paddlers, so pick up a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard from the on-site rental center and spend a few hours gliding through the mangroves.

2. Discover Modern Art at MOCA

Explore the wonderful modern art world at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). Learn more about the museums' artists and installations at the Conversations at MOCA speaker series. On the first Friday of every month, participate in a beloved North Miami tradition: the free outdoor Jazz at MOCA concerts.

3. Work on Your Swing at Greynolds Golf Course

Stretch your legs and improve your short game at the Greynolds Golf Course. The modest size of this nine-hole, par-36 course is part of its appeal. You won't find crowds or long lines, and the green fees are among the most affordable in the Miami area. Join a winter golf league, or meet local golfers over cocktails in the clubhouse.

4. Take a Beach Stroll

Soak in the sun and the warm winter breezes while you walk for miles along the quiet Atlantic Ocean beaches near Villa SoLé. Start at the Newport Fishing Pier and walk north, or head south from Haulover Inlet along beautiful Bal Harbour Beach. Most local beaches are public, except for Golden Beach.

5. Watch for Manatees in the Wild

As the ocean cools in the winter, manatees swim up Florida's inland rivers in search of warmer water. In North Miami, the calm canals in Oleta River State Park are the best place to spot these gentle giants. Farther afield, check out Black Point Marina in Miami or Manatee Lagoon in Riviera Beach.

Set on the northern side of North Miami, the luxury apartments at Villa SoLé offer easy access to the best winter activities in the region. World-class beaches, parks, and museums lie within a few miles of your front door. From sunbathing to wildlife spotting, this quiet community offers an endless stream of fun things to do in South Florida during the coldest months of the year.
